I Need a Good Quote...?

I am writing a novel about a man with who slowly descends into insanity, his horrible regret over the pain he has caused, his search for redemption, and his ultimate failure. It is told mostly in first-person in his mind. I want to put a quote at the beginning. please tell me why it would be good and who said it and such. Thnx
